Debates within the commune
the commune was an openly communist organisation, which included marxist autonomists, dissident trotskyists and republican communists (RCN). Whilst the RCN made a growing impact in the SSP pursuing a socialist republican ‘internationalism from below policy’, highlighted in two Republican Socialist Conventions, those, particularly from an old Militant background, did not want their understanding of socialism questioned. So, whilst remaining a platform in the SSP to further advance republican socialist politics, the RCN also joined the commune to advance communist politics and hosted three Global Commune conferences in Edinburgh)
