\nSo much goes on we end up dizzy.
\nHustings, meetings, stalls\u2014all vital
\nBut there\u2019s a task which every night\u2019ll
\nTurn each of us into a drudge,
\nAye, leafleting\u2019s a weary trudge!<\/p>\n
There\u2019s letter boxes, sharp it seems Some dogs keenly vent their wrath But there again, there is the hound The first you know\u2019s when something slams Your curses make the air turn blue, This experience comes from leafleting during a council by-election in the Lochee ward in Dundee, but I imagine that what is described in this little ditty is transferable to anywhere that dogs lurk unseen, waiting to give their canine judgement on political activists of any persuasion. \nAs any shiny guillotine.
\nThere\u2019s stairs to climb that take your breath,
\nYou puff, you pant, feel near to death.
\nBlasted by wind and soaked by rain,
\nYou think to yourself, Never again!<\/q>
\nBut the biggest danger in the end
\nComes always from a man\u2019s best friend.<\/p>\n
\nThe second that you\u2019re on the path
\nThat leads from garden gate to door,
\nThey bark, they growl, they howl, they roar.
\nAnd from the noise they make you know
\nIf up that path you should dare go.
\nDoes it sound big? Does it sound small?
\nIt\u2019s up to you\u2014your judgment call.<\/p>\n
\nWhich doesn\u2019t make a single sound.
\nBehind the door he\u2019ll silent sit,
\nWaiting for some dim half-wit
\nTo put his hand through the front door.
\nWhat savage dog could ask for more?
\nHe loves a fool who careless lingers,
\nAnd doesn\u2019t, quick, withdraw his fingers.<\/p>\n
\nAgainst the door, it seems the jambs
\nThemselves, they must be near collapse
\nAs Fido, furious, rabid, snaps
\nAt your fingers, teeth bare, flashing,
\nTo the bone incisors slashing.
\nAnd then, the bit that really narks,
\nThe damage done it\u2019s then<\/strong> he barks!<\/p>\n
\nIt\u2019s A & E<\/acronym> next stop for you
\nAs there you stand, your fingers bleeding,
\nAn anti-tet and stitches needing.
\nNow here\u2019s the thing that\u2019s to be learned,
\nLike all good lessons it\u2019s hard earned.
\nLeafleting that\u2019s swift and brief
