Uday, One Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

In memory of Uday Abu Mohsen who lived only one day
\nafter being killed during the Siege of Gaza, 2023.<\/p>\n

Uday was the baby boy\u2019s name. Uday, it was.
\nHe would have known so little but he would
\nhave known he was someone with being.
\nHe would have been welcomed and loved.<\/p>\n

He would have been welcomed with fear
\nand would have known little of the blast
\nthat ended his one- day old life, mayfly Uday.
\nYet he leaves behind much more than a name.<\/p>\n

He leaves behind the insanity of surgical strikes,
\nthe criminality of collateral damage, the nonsense
\nof precision bombing, the lunatic costs \u2013 and profits \u2013
\nof warfare set against the massacre of the innocents.<\/p>\n

Uday\u2019s death certificate was bizarrely issued before
\nany birth certificate arrived and the bombing continued
\nafter his death. But mayfly Uday must be remembered
\nand not just in Gaza and in Palestine, not just there.<\/p>\n

The cry of Uday must be heard in Israel, in Syria, in Iraq,
\nin Russia and Ukraine, in Yemen, Tigray and Sudan.
\nUday\u2019s little whimper should cross oceans, mountains
\nand plains, teeming cities and deserts, turning louder.<\/p>\n

Turning louder all the time so that the whole world
\nbegins to realise that without justice there is no peace;
\nthat only justice can guarantee peace. Uday, one day
\npeace and justice will reign in your name. Uday, one day.<\/p>\n
