YOUR COUNTRY<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Your country is sold off<\/p>\n

in 45,000 acre parcels<\/p>\n

at \u00a325 million a go<\/p>\n

by the inventor of the sticky back label<\/p>\n

who bought it from<\/p>\n

a down on his luck laird<\/p>\n

who in turn bought it off<\/p>\n

a minor psychopathic pirate chief<\/p>\n

who covered the ground in blood<\/p>\n

& at the point of a sword<\/p>\n

claimed your country as his own<\/p>\n

as the people were moved abroad<\/p>\n

or cut down like fields of hay<\/p>\n

& fed to the giant white horse of history<\/p>\n

your country is weeping<\/p>\n

your country is singing<\/p>\n

the pibrochd of the land<\/p>\n

the clarsach of the sea<\/p>\n

the piob mor of justice<\/p>\n

our declaration is the Tree of Strings<\/p>\n

with the strath full of a strange<\/p>\n

& ancient language<\/p>\n

which comes out of the ground<\/p>\n

& is covered in pollen<\/p>\n

& the dust from a butterflies wing<\/p>\n

some 50,000 years ago<\/p>\n

when someone laid flowers on a grave<\/p>\n

your country is ceremony & memory<\/p>\n

but is your country still<\/p>\n

passed on through civilisations<\/p>\n

from Iron Age brochs<\/p>\n

to the primary school playing fields<\/p>\n

where the laughter of bairns<\/p>\n

nourishes the ground<\/p>\n

like sunshine & rain<\/p>\n

they claim nothing but their lives<\/p>\n

their joy<\/p>\n

your country these voices<\/p>\n

stretching out over the landscape<\/p>\n

& the sea<\/p>\n

back to the oak grove<\/p>\n

forwards to the shore<\/p>\n
