It also makes reference to the words of Mary Brookesbank, the communist songwriter, poet and author, also from of Dundee. Her words,\u00a0<em>Oh dear me, the world\u2019s ill-divided\/ Them that work the hardest, are the least provided\/ I maun bide\u00a0contented dark days or fine, For thae&#8217;s nae much pleasure livin&#8217; affen ten and nine\/<\/em>\u00a0are from the\u00a0<em>Jute Mill Song.<\/em>\u00a0 They can be found on the Canongate facade of the \u00a0Scottish Parliament. \u00a0We&#8217;d like to thank Rod for sending us this poem.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">____________<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>THE CORONATION\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/republicancommunist.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Unknown.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-24293\" src=\"http:\/\/republicancommunist.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Unknown.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"368\" \/><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>The great and good are gathered,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>The choir, how they sing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>The shout goes up so loudly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>As they yell, &#8220;God save the King. &#8220;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>But not all think so, thankfully.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Myself, I&#8217;m filled with scorn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>The man to whom I&#8217;ll bend my knee?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>That man is not yet born!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>And in a country that they say<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Is famous for being carin&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>The money splashed on this gross bash<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Would feed a million bairns.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Aye, that&#8217;s right! There&#8217;s hungry bairns,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>There&#8217;s no way that is right.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>And old folk in the dark and cold<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Who dread the coming night.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>But let&#8217;s not linger on the needs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Of the poor, who are so many.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Let&#8217;s squander millions on the few<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>And give them not a penny.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>They live in houses you and me,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Our taxes they provided.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>While some sleep rough, no friendly roof,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>This world&#8217;s still ill-divided.*\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>So, on the day, I have to say<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>I&#8217;ll be full o&#8217; derision.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>I&#8217;ll stay at home, and on my own<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>I&#8217;ll have a different vision.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>A land where no one goes without,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Freeloaders &#8211; there are none.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Where all is shared, no royals there.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: center;\"><strong>Now, doesn&#8217;t that sound fun?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: center;\">* The words taken from Mary Brookesbank&#8217;s The Jute Mill Song<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">______________<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This poem by Rod MacGregor of Dundee was written for Charlie&#8217;s coronation.
