She refers to past battles in Glasgow over housing led by Mary Barbour; whilst only two days following the action on 13th May, more protestors condemning the lethal actions of the Israeli state in Palestine, shouted from “Govanhill to Gaza \u00a0– Support the next Infada”<\/strong><\/p>\n

GLASGOW SAYS “NO PASARAN” TO THE HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hi there,<\/p>\n

Glaswegians are\u00a0in jubilant\u00a0mood this morning\u00a0after\u00a0hundreds of protesters successfully\u00a0resisted the U.K.\u00a0Border Agency\u2019s attempts to remove\u00a0two asylum seekers from their neighbours and community. Those chants \u201cthese are our neighbours, let them go\u201d were uplifting.<\/p>\n

Jelina Berlow Rahman attended the protest as a legal observer for our charity, and,\u00a0has agreed to take\u00a0up\u00a0the men\u2019s\u00a0cases\u00a0alongside Latta & Co Solicitors. Our extensive Humans of Glasgow Network came into its own by spreading the word. The power of digital.<\/p>\n

Yesterday\u2019s scenes were reminiscent of Mary Barbour\u2019s\u00a0rent strikes. Shockingly, they happened\u00a0in the heart of Glasgow\u2019s Muslim community,\u00a0on\u00a0Eid Ul Fitr, a Muslim holy festival to mark the end of Ramadhan.\u00a0It\u00a0was a small victory in the face of the Home Secretary\u2019s \u201cnew plan for immigration\u201d.\u00a0This will see asylum seekers left on the streets as soon as they reach the U.K.,\u00a0human rights abuses hidden from public gaze with the setting up of \u00a0asylum reception centres,\u00a0and the prospect of more\u00a0deaths by drowning at\u00a0sea because of a lack of safe and legal routes to refuge here.<\/p>\n

We led a\u00a0strong\u00a0campaign\u00a0to\u00a0end dawn raids 16 years ago.\u00a0So we have been here before.\u00a0Early morning\u00a0raids cannot happen without the cooperation of Police Scotland.\u00a0If the devolved body\u00a0declines\u00a0to get involved, with the intervention of the Scottish Government,\u00a0the UK Border Agency will not be able to carry out these early morning raids and harrass\u00a0our communities, including refugees, asylum seekers, migrants and those with NRPF or\u00a0insecure status.<\/p>\n

We are concerned about the prospect of\u00a0further raids\u00a0happening as part of\u00a0Home Secretary Priti\u00a0Patel\u2019s \u201cnew plan for immigration\u201d.<\/p>\n
